Grammys and Oscars to Proceed Amid LA Wildfires, Focusing on First Responders and Relief Efforts

Despite the devastating wildfires currently ravaging Los Angeles, both the Grammys and the Oscars will proceed as scheduled in February and March 2025, with a renewed focus on honoring first responders and supporting wildfire relief efforts.

The announcement comes after discussions about whether to cancel or reshape the events in light of the fires, which have displaced thousands and caused widespread damage. Celebrities like Jean Smart and Patricia Arquette had suggested turning the award shows into charitable telethons, but organizers decided to continue the tradition while also addressing the crisis.

The Grammys, set for February 2, will spotlight first responders and include a charitable component to aid wildfire relief. The Recording Academy has already donated $2 million through its MusiCares initiative to support music professionals affected by the fires. The show will also work closely with local authorities to ensure public safety and responsible use of resources.

The Oscars, scheduled for March 2, will continue as planned, although voting has been extended, and the nominations announcement will now take place virtually on January 23. The Academy also expressed solidarity with those impacted by the fires, emphasizing their commitment to celebrating resilience and supporting relief efforts.

While several award season events have been postponed or rescheduled, including the Critics Choice Awards and the Producers Guild Awards, both the Grammys and the Oscars are set to proceed with a focus on helping those in need and honoring the bravery of first responders.
