Los Angeles Wildfires: Latest Updates on Blazes Across the County

As Los Angeles County firefighters make progress against several wildfires, new evacuation orders and road closures issued late Friday underscore the persistent risks to residents and first responders. The Palisades Fire remains a significant focus, stretching further east and drawing intensified efforts from fire crews and aircraft in the Mandeville Canyon area.

Current Status of Major Fires:

  • Palisades Fire: 21,596 acres, 8% contained
  • Eaton Fire: 14,117 acres, 3% contained
  • Kenneth Fire: 1,052 acres, 50% contained
  • Hurst Fire: 771 acres, 70% contained
  • Lidia Fire: 395 acres, 98% contained
  • Archer Fire: 19 acres, 0% contained

Damage Assessment

Preliminary estimates from Cal Fire indicate that over 10,000 structures, ranging from homes to outbuildings, have been damaged or destroyed by the Eaton and Palisades fires alone. These figures are likely to rise as inspectors continue assessing the damage on the ground.

Weather Outlook

The region remains under a red flag warning, but firefighters are hopeful that easing winds overnight will allow them to make progress on some of the largest fires. However, forecasts suggest winds may strengthen again over the weekend, with a potential Santa Ana wind event early next week. These hot, dry, and powerful gusts could intensify the flames of any ongoing fires.

Residents are urged to stay informed, follow evacuation orders, and prioritize safety as firefighters continue their efforts to contain the blazes.
